Outer Space

Bet you guys didn’t know you could travel into outer space right from a comfy seat on campus! This is something I’ve personally experienced and love. All viewings are FREE on Saturdays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. from September to the end of June.

Here are the shows available this semester:

  • [endif]Earth, Moon and Sun, Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

[if !supportLists]o [endif]This show explores the relationship between the Earth, Moon and Sun with the help of Native American storytelling to help distinguish between myths and science. Watch the trailer.

  • Dark: Understanding Dark Matter, Saturday at 2:15 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

[if !supportLists]o [endif]This showing is an attempt at understanding the nature of dark matter, the missing 80 percent of the universe that will help us understand why the universe is the way it is. Watch the trailer.

  • Meteorite Collection

If you prefer something a little more tangible the Meteorite Collection may be an exciting exhibit to visit. This exhibit features fragments of meteorites that have come to us from places including: Diablo Canyon, Arizona, the Sahara Desert and the Central European Strewn Field. The collection is located on the first and second floor hallways of the Physics and Chemistry Building and admission is free!

Peaceful/Mindful/Self-Care

As I mentioned before, I understand that we’re approaching a stressful part of the semester. There are two absolute gems on and close to campus that are essential in taking a relaxing break from the everyday stressors of life.

[if !supportLists]o [endif]The Oasis

  • This luxurious piece of heaven is located in the Counseling Center on the third floor of the Student Success Center. The space includes: yoga mats, pillows, blankets, water features, iPads with relaxation apps, massage chairs and more! What more could you ask for? It’s the perfect set up! Open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

[if !supportLists]o [endif]The Studio

  • The counseling center also provides an arts and crafts room. Getting creative is a great stress reliever. The room includes paints, brushes, canvases, sketch pads, clay, sand, coloring utensils, masks, mandalas, fabrics, ribbon and so much more! You know what they say – when in doubt, art it out. Open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Edith J. Carrier Arboretum - Janelle Jackson

  • The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum

This is the perfect place for a solo stroll, a little jog or some meditation time. The scenery is gorgeous and there are plenty of little critters to make friends with including ducks and turtles. The arboretum holds events throughout the year so be sure to check their events page for more details.
