Do you like getting creative behind the camera? The Edith J. Carrier Arboretum hosts a monthly photo contest, and it’s the perfect way to practice photography and challenge yourself to be creative. Take a long walk and snap some photos of the beautiful foliage and cute critters. This is also a great way to enjoy a day off before starting your vacation. Rules and regulations for the contest are here.

This one isn’t quite for the weekend, but if you’re going to be in town for Thanksgiving and enjoy a brisk morning walk, run or jog this one’s for you –

Rocktown Turkey Trot & Gobble Gobble Kids Dash

125 S. Main St.,

Harrisonburg, VA 22801

The Rocktown Turkey Trot will be the perfect way to kick off your Thanksgiving morning! This four-mile course is great for everyone – from first-timers to veteran runners. Have a one-of-a-kind turkey trot experience where a city official will pardon a turkey and you’ll receive pumpkin pie in a cup during the race! The race is also collecting canned foods and nonperishables for the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, donation isn’t optional: each participant will be asked to bring one (or more) items to packet pickup on Wednesday, Nov. 23, from noon-7 p.m. The race will take place on Thursday, Nov. 24 from 8-10 am. There will be awards for top finishers by age group so don’t miss out!

I hope everyone has a safe, fun and relaxing Thanksgiving break!
