Alright, Dukes, now that we’ve gotten into the fall spirit it’s time to get spooky! Luckily for us, spooky is right around the corner —

The Haunted Harrisonburg Ghost Tours is an outdoor walking adventure through the local haunts of Downtown Harrisonburg. Tours are given by JMU alumna, Lisa Ha, and are full of the towns history along with exciting, sometimes hair-raising stories. The tours start in the parking lot behind Hardesty-Higgins House tourist center at 7:30 p.m. and will occur on Oct. 21-22 and Oct. 28-31. Tours will last 75-minutes so be sure to wear some good walking shoes and to bring an umbrella (weather permitting). Tours can be scheduled via e-mail or over the phone at the e-mail address and phone number listed above.

8 & 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings between Oct. 7 and Oct. 31

This tour is full of historical data, folklore and ghost stories during a nighttime walk to 5-6 locations/shops in Downtown Staunton. The tour costs $12/adults and $6/child 6-12.

7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday evenings throughout October only

During this tour the participants will walk through the Gypsy Hill Park as Staunton’s unusual, historic and odd tales are told. This tour will cost $10/adults and $6/child 6-12.

8:45 p.m. on Oct. 22 and Oct. 29, 7 p.m. on Oct. 30

The Haunted Depot Tour is based around a stroll to Staunton’s Haunted Depot as the location’s famous haunts are discussed and paranormal/ghostly evidence and data are shared. At the end of the tour a live audio session will be done to contact those on the . This tour will also be $12/adult and $6/child 6-12.

7 p.m. on Oct. 31

Tours prepare to leave their starting locations 15 minutes early in order to collect payment (cash only) and give out tickets. Tours start promptly on the hour. It is recommended that each attendee brings a flashlight, umbrella (weather permitting), good walking shoes, an open mind and an empty bladder. The tours are outside only and last 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on the tour chosen.

If getting that spooky isn’t quite your thing there’s some light-hearted fun going down in Downtown Harrisonburg (8-minute drive or 31-minute walk from JMU’s campus) at the Skeleton Festival on Oct. 22 from 2-9 p.m.
